Blackwood Game Concept Launched: Geeking Out to the DVD Makes for a Deadly Killer
- 9modIf you love high-octane action games with a dark end-of-days twist, I’ve got some news to quicken your pulse. The studio that brought us the competent tactical shooter Zero Hour, AttritoM7 Productions has now announced Blackwood—an over-the-shoulder action title that appears to be taking a page right out of the John Wick handbook. Imagine: 2012 New York City, the neon lights flickering on rain-slick streets, and you in the middle of it all.
The story grabs you right off the bat with Anton Blackwood, a man operating a small DVD shop. During the day, he’s a face in the crowd; on an average shift, he’s stocking shelves and bantering with customers to maintain that routine semblance. But then the sun is dipping and Anton is powering up. He enters the shadows as a professional hitman, following his own unbreakable code. It’s that age-old double-life gimmick done with panache, a mash-up of hushed tension and big-boom payoff.
But what truly makes Blackwood unique is the gameplay. Look for fluid and overly extravagant shootouts, where you work in acrobatic dodging with your gunplay. The devs are doubling down on those cinematic finishing moves think brutal takedowns that feel earned and smart leveraging of the urban jungle around you, from alleyways to storefronts as weapons. It’s not all night ops, though. By day, you descend into store management: upgrading the pad, tweaking your look, making connections. These bits infuse some mild RPG vibes, making the world feel lived-in without sapping the pace.
Blackwood will have its eyes set on a third-quarter 2026 release, and it’s PC-only for the time being. If Zero Hour is anything to go by, AttiritoM7 certainly knows how to do intense combat right, so this may prove to be a sleeper hit for those into the stylish shooter thing. Stay tuned I’ll be looking for additional trailers. What say: feel like moonlighting as an assassin?
